Our History
Mt. Zion Christian Assembly of Olean NY was founded in 1983 as an outreach of Myrtle Gospel Tabernacle of Shinglehouse, PA by Pastors Van Gayton and Lou Goszleth. The church was incorporated in September 1984. The church was pastored by Rev. Van Gayton from 1983-1992, then by Rev. R. Stanley Parks from 1992-2007. The current pastor, Rev. Stephen Patrick, was installed in April 2007.
Mt. Zion has held past affiliations with Hebron Fellowship of Waverly, PA and Elim Fellowship of Lima, NY. In April 2007, Mt. Zion became part of the International Community of Christian Churches (ICCC).
From 1983-1994 the church met in the Olean YMCA building for Sunday worship with home group meetings throughout the week. In 1994 Mt. Zion purchased the Coral Lanes bowling alley on 321 Front Street. On Mother's Day in 1994, the church marched from the YMCA to the new facility and began holding worship services there. The building has been renovated to include a sanctuary, classrooms, offices, a fellowship hall with an industrial kitchen, and a cafe. More renovations are planned for the future.
Members of Mt. Zion have traveled around the world to minister the gospel of Jesus Christ. We have sent individuals and teams to Guatemala, Honduras, Kenya, India, the Philippines, Brazil, France, Egypt, Haiti and more. We are committed to reaching the lost both here at home and abroad.
In September 2008 Mt. Zion celebrated its 25th anniversary of fellowship and ministry in the Southern Tier of Western New York. We thank God for the firm foundation laid by our past leaders, and we look forward to continued growth in ministry and faith. To God be the glory!
